Planning Tips for 2026 VIC School Holidays
🗺️ Every state sets its own four terms
Australia's eight states and territories each publish their own four-term calendar, so NSW, Victoria and Queensland never break at exactly the same time — useful for avoiding interstate peak pricing.
🏫 School development days dot the term edges
Pupil-free staff development days sit at the start or end of most terms, so children often return a day after the published term start. Check your school's newsletter.
🧢 Summer holidays span Christmas
The long break runs mid-December to late January across the southern-hemisphere summer — book December beach destinations 6+ months ahead; January is peak domestic travel.
🧒 Vacation care books out early
Vacation care, sports camps and holiday programs for the two-week term breaks fill up when bookings open, often weeks before the break starts — register as soon as enrolments open.
